Andrew Wight was an Australian screenwriter and producer best known for his 2011 film Sanctum. He produced over 45 films including television documentaries, live television specials and 3D IMAX films. His credits include Ghosts of the Abyss, Aliens of the Deep and Expedition: Bismarck. Andrew Wight has been honored with the Australian Geographic Society Spirit of Adventure Awards in 1989.

On February 4, 2012, Wight was killed in a helicopter crash at Jaspers Brush near the town of Berry in New South Wales, Australia.

Jimmy Sangster

Jimmy SangsterBorn on December 2, 1927.

Jimmy Sangster was an English screenwriter and director, known for his work for horror film producers Hammer Film Productions, including scripts for The Curse of Frankenstein and Dracula (US: Horror of Dracula). Sangster originally worked as a production assistant at the studio, as well as assistant director, second unit director, and production manager. After Hammer Films Productions’ success with The Quatermass Xperiment, Sangster was approached to write The Curse of Frankenstein. He later turned to direction with The Horror of Frankenstein and Lust for a Vampire (both 1970) for the studio, but with far less success. His third (and last) film as director was 1972’s Fear in the Night, which resurrected the psychological woman-in-peril thriller Sangster had begun with his script for Taste of Fear in 1961.

Jimmy Sangster died on August 19, 2011 (aged 83).

Sam Denoff

Sam DenoffBorn on July 1, 1928 in Brooklyn, New York.

Sam Denoff was an American Emmy Award-winning screenwriter, television producer. Sam began his prolific career in radio at WNEW in New York and later moved to Los Angeles to work in television, starting with The Steve Allen Show. He worked on The Andy Williams Show before landing a job with partner Bill Persky on The Dick Van Dyke Show, where he and Persky co-wrote such classic episodes as “Coast-to-Coast Big Mouth” and “That’s My Boy!” He and Persky then co-created and co-produced That Girl.

Denoff died on July 8, 2011. Aged 83.

David Rayfiel

David Rayfiel was an American screenwriter and frequent collaborator of director Sydney Pollack (1934-2008). His father was U.S. CongressmanLeo F. Rayfiel (1888-1978). His first wife was actress Maureen Stapleton (1925-2006), from 1963-66 before the couple divorced. His former house at Day, New York, known as David Rayfiel House, was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2009.

David Rayfiel died on June 22, 2011 of heart failure, aged 87

Arthur Laurents

Arthur LaurentsBorn on July 14, 1917 in Brooklyn, New York.

Arthur Laurents was an American playwright, stage director and screenwriter. After writing scripts for radio shows after college and then training films for the U.S. Army during World War II, Laurents turned to writing for Broadway, producing a body of work that includes West Side Story (1957), Gypsy (1959), Hallelujah, Baby! (1967) and La Cage Aux Folles (1983), and directing some of his own shows and other Broadway productions.Laurents’ early film scripts included Rope (1948) for Alfred Hitchcock, followed by Anastasia (1956), Bonjour Tristesse (1958), The Way We Were (1973) and The Turning Point (1977).

Laurents died at the age of 93 in New York City on May 5, 2011 of pneumonia complications.

John Sullivan

John SullivanBorn John Richard Thomas Sullivan, on December 23rd, 1946 in Balham, South London, England.

John Sullivan was an English television scriptwriter responsible for several popular British sitcoms, including Only Fools and Horses, Citizen Smith and Just Good Friends. From working class South London, Sullivan worked in a variety of low-paid jobs for 15 years before getting his first break writing Citizen Smith. However, it was for the sitcom Only Fools and Horses (1981-2003) that he is perhaps best known. Other sitcoms include Dear John, Just Good Friends, Sitting Pretty, Roger Roger, and The Green Green Grass.[1] In addition, he wrote the comedy drama serial Over Here, the drama series Micawber for ITV and co-wrote the comedy Heartburn Hotel. His work won him a number of comedy awards, including the BAFTA for best sitcom on three occasions, and he was made an OBE in 2005. His last work was Rock & Chips, a comedy drama prequel to Only Fools and Horses.

Sullivan died aged 64 on 23 April 2011 in a private hospital in Surrey, after having viral pneumonia for six weeks.

Kevin Jarre

Kevin JarreBorn August 6, 1954 in Detroit, Michigan.

Jarre was an American screenwriter, actor, and film producer. He was born in to actress Laura Devon who subsequently married Maurice Jarre in the mid-1960s, and hence was the adoptive half-brother to French composer Jean-Michel Jarre. Of his more well-known film scripts include Rambo: First Blood Part II, Glory, and Tombstone. Jarre wrote the screenplays for The Mummy and The Devil’s Own as well, while also producing The Jackal. He was nominated for a Golden Globe Award for Best Screenplay and a WGA Award for Best Adapted Screenplay for writing Glory.

Kevin Jarre died in Santa Monica, California of heart failure.
